Output

Purpose: turn a live provider response into one reviewed, stable input for a lecture. The generator uses the frozen version only; it does not fetch new values while writing or publishing.

Workflow

Select a trusted data source.
Choose a provider and enter its query.
Select Preview response and inspect dates, units, geography, and rows.
Select Freeze reviewed snapshot to S3 only when the preview is appropriate.
Generate the lecture. Use the attached snapshot for its tables and Plotly figures.

To change values later, make and freeze a new snapshot. Removing one from a lecture stops its use there but does not overwrite the archived copy.

Before freezing

Check the unit, frequency, seasonal adjustment, dates, and population/geography.
Make the source visible in the resulting table or figure caption.
Do not combine series with different frequencies or units without explaining the choice.
Use only values present in the attached snapshot. Do not interpolate, extend, or make up historical points.

Quick troubleshooting

“Needs key”: add the named key to Squiddlr’s server-side .env and restart the squiddlr process.
No rows or preview failure: verify the provider’s series ID, date range, dataset/vintage, variables, and geography before changing any credential.
Snapshot did not affect generation: make sure it is listed under “Frozen snapshots used by this lecture,” then save the lecture contract and generate a new draft.
